Playtime! Re-discovering acrylic pour art

I did something I literally haven’t done in years - I played and made a few acrylic pour paintings with no goal in mind other than to use up a few bottles of half empty paint.

I LOVE acrylic pour paintings - I love admiring and getting lost in the design and the colors. They were hot and trendy a few years ago and I got on that bandwagon really quick and made quite a few. Some (in my opinion) turned out really awesome, and some were… not. I just enjoyed making them. But then, I started hearing my inner grandma voice telling me they were a waste of paint, supplies, and time. And then a few people I trust deeply mentioned that they thought these kinds of paintings “didn’t count” as real paintings. I heard that and it confirmed what my inner grandma voice was saying and I believed them. I put the paints and all the supplies on the side and didn’t touch them again.

Last week, I cleaned out and organized my studio space. I went through my paint stash and threw empty and dried paint tubes/bottles away.

This is just one shelf of paint!

I have so many half used bottles/tubes left. I thought it would be fun to do some pours just to use the paint in my stash. So that’s what I did and i love love love the results.

Next up: experiment mounting them (they are on Yupo paper) and adding resin (it will be my first time using resin- i’m so nervous!)

Stay tuned!
