Featured Handmade Artist- El Dave Photography
Hello!!! Happy Thursday!!! Today I'm excited to present to you the Featured Handmade Artist-
El Dave Photography (Full Disclosure: El Dave is actually one of my dearest dearest friends.)
I'm so excited to be able to feature Dave's photography. He's got one of the most interesting and refreshing points of view that I've ever seen and he takes the most AMAZING toy photos (yes, he is the inspiration behind my own toy shots!)
Hi! Can you tell us a little about yourself?
My name is David, I live just outside of Chicago, and I'm currently a Research Assistant for the YMCA of the USA.
How long have you been creating?
Let's see... I uploaded my first photo to Flickr in December 2005, so... (mental math) just shy of 5 years.
What is the inspiration behind your photography?
My goal is to try and catch a different perspective; to try and bring the viewer to another place.
What would be your dream job?
Professional toy photographer. Or twelve-time lottery winner. I'm not picky.
Please describe your creative process.
My creative process used to entail 10% taking pictures and 90% stressing myself out. A year or two ago, I came across a copy of The Tao of Photography in the local library and the percentages flipped overnight. Now I've learned to step back and let the picture happen, as opposed to trying to force a good shot.
What item would you be secretly heartbroken about if it sold?
I think I would only be heartbroken if nothing sold! The idea that I am creating and selling art still amazes me.
How do you get your work out there?
I do all the usual stuff you'd expect, like linking on Twitter ( @ElDavePhoto), on Facebook, Flickr ( http://www.flickr.com/photos/eldave/), and my blog ( http://eldavephoto.blogspot.com/). I've also set up a Tumblr and DeviantArt account, but honestly, I just don't have the energy to keep those up as well. I'd rather take that time to take and edit more photos!
What are a few of your favorite books, movies, musicians, and websites that you'd like to share?
My favorite book series of all time is Hyperion, by Dan Simmons. I read it every year! As for movies, I'd have to put Iron Man and Iron Man 2 up near the top, since I'm a huge nerd. And I listen to waaaaay too much music to narrow that one down! (Amon Tobin, Soil & Pimp Sessions, Days of the New)
If you could have one super power, what would it be and why?
Is there a super power that lets me have all the other super powers? Or is that like wishing for more wishes?
What would you do if you knew you could not fail?
Fly.
Thank you Dave for letting us get to know you a little bit better!!! I highly recommend that you check out his etsy shop for more amazing fine art photography!
