Featured Handmade Artist- MicheleMaule

Hello! Hope you are having a wonderful week, and that you're safe from all the terrible storms that are afflicting the Southern US...

I'm thrilled and excited to bring you an interview from one of my favorite artists on Etsy-- Michele from michelemaule. I am so in love with Michele's drawings--It was her lovely vintage camera and illustrations of typewriters that first caught my eye!

Here are a few more of my favorites, including that vintage camera...

Hi Michele! Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

My name is Michele Maule, I'm from Portland, Oregon, and I am a visual artist.

What is the first craft project you remember making?

I remember making this little clay bear in the first grade. it was like terra cotta and we got to paint it and fire it. Well, we didn't fire it, our art teacher did. I also remember her telling us that if we became artists we shouldn't expect to make any money until after we were dead. Seriously. She said that I remember it to this day.

Where does your inspiration come from?

My inspiration comes from my everyday life. The little things that often go unnoticed.

Can you describe some of your creative process?

I like to be alone when I work. I like to work during the morning. I have to have everything in order before I can sit down to draw or paint. Chaos is not my friend. I like to draw and paint things that make me happy, so I try to find those things and go from there. Sometimes it doesn't work out, but when it does work out, I am filled with so much happiness.

What is your most prized handmade possession?

A needlepoint that my grandmother made for me when I was born.

If you could give one piece of advice to a new etsy seller, what would it be?

List often.

What are some of the ways you promote your work?

My shop: www.michelemaule.etsy.com
I use Twitter: www.twitter.com/michelemaule
Facebook: www.facebook.com/michelemauleart
My blog (which I've been neglecting lately...) www.how2drawacupofcoffee.blogspot.com

What are the three websites you couldn’t live without?

www.poppytalk.blogspot.com
www.craftopolis.com
www.mymilktoof.blogspot.com

Where do you see yourself in ten years?

Hopefully, in ten years, I will be able to quit my day job and make art full time! That's where I would like to be, anyway.

If you could have one super power, what would it be and why?

I'd like to be able to have conversations with my dog...it's kind of weird, but I am so absolutely curious as to what goes on in that little head of hers.

Thank you so much Michelle!!! I'm so glad to see you doing what you love and making art (and selling it!) despite what your first grade teacher said! (ah, one day I will have to recount my own "you can't make a living doign art" story...)

Please stop by Michele's shop and have a look around! You'll fall in love with her style too! michellemaule.etsy.com
